About calligraphy practice paper
Guide sheets keep lettering even. Baselines and waist (x-height) lines fix how tall the letters are, and slanted guides at your chosen angle keep every stroke leaning the same way. It works for italic, copperplate and modern calligraphy.
Guide sheets keep hand-lettering even: baselines and waist (x-height) lines fix letter height, and slant guides at your chosen angle keep every stroke leaning the same way. The setup works for italic, copperplate and modern calligraphy.
Set the x-height and slant to your nib and hand — a steeper slant for copperplate, upright for foundational hands. Practicing over consistent guides is the fastest route to even lettering.

Common questions
What slant angle should I use?
Copperplate typically uses around 55°, italic is gentler, and foundational hands are upright. Set the angle to the script you are practicing.
What are the x-height lines for?
They fix how tall the body of each letter is, keeping your lettering a consistent height across the page.

Printing at the right size
Every sheet is drawn in real units, so it prints true to size as long as you print at 100%. In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% and turn off “Fit to page” or “Shrink oversized pages” — then a 5 mm square really measures 5 mm. Download a vector SVG to edit later, a PNG at up to 600 dpi, or a ready-to-print PDF. Everything is generated in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and every sheet is free to print for personal, classroom and commercial use. See the guide to printing at true size or the FAQ for more.
