About triangular graph paper

Triangular paper divides the page into equilateral triangles. It works for tessellations, geometric patterns, quilting, and some 3D and crystallography sketches. Set the triangle size and color.

Triangular paper fills the page with equilateral triangles from horizontal lines crossed by 60° diagonals. It is used for tessellations and geometric art, quilt and patchwork planning, and some crystallography and truss sketches where 60° angles matter.

Set the triangle size to your pattern repeat and lighten the color if you are drawing over the top. The regular 60° lattice makes it easy to keep repeating motifs aligned.

Common questions

What is triangular paper used for?

Tessellations and geometric patterns, quilting and patchwork layouts, and technical sketches that rely on 60° angles.

How is it different from isometric paper?

Triangular paper uses horizontal lines with 60° diagonals; isometric uses vertical lines with 30° diagonals for 3D drawing.

Guides for this paper

Printing at the right size

Every sheet is drawn in real units, so it prints true to size as long as you print at 100%. In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% and turn off “Fit to page” or “Shrink oversized pages” — then a 5 mm square really measures 5 mm. Download a vector SVG to edit later, a PNG at up to 600 dpi, or a ready-to-print PDF. Everything is generated in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and every sheet is free to print for personal, classroom and commercial use. See the guide to printing at true size or the FAQ for more.
